Star Wars: The Last Jedi Teaser Trailer Breakdown

Star Wars Celebration is still going on in Orlando. We got the first trailer for the next episode in the Star Wars saga today. And holy shit it was awesome!

The trailer kicks of with a close-up shot of a rock. And shortly after that Rey falls down on the rock, panting. Then we hear Luke Skywalker telling her to “breath, just breath” while we see an amazing shot of the island on Ahch-To from a distance. Then we see Rey’s hand and she is levitating some small rocks with the Force. Luke tells her to reach out and asks her what does she see. She says she sees light, darkness and balance, while we see shots of Leia, Kylo’s(?) broken helmet and the old Jedi symbol. Then we see Rey practicing her lightsaber skills in another beautiful shot from a distance. After that we see some new ships flying close to ground, with one of them briefly hitting the ground. The ships are leaving some kind of red smoke trail behind them. Finn is apparently in some kind of machine, recovering from his injuries in TFA. Poe and BB-8 are running towards an X-Wing before there’s an explosion in the hangar, but don’t worry they were far enough that they didn’t get hurt (at least not yet). Then we see the Millenium Falcon in battle with some TIE-fighters. And after this, the trailer gets really cryptic (which is fucking awesome). We hear Luke saying “I only know one truth, it’s time for the Jedi to end. While we see Rey running, Kylo pointing at something with his lightsaber, R2-D2 with Luke in front of a burning building/village and a space battle.

What does all of this mean?

We’ll for one thing, we have a confirmation that Luke will train Rey. And that Rey continues to prove that she’s a very powerful Force-user. And she appears to keep the blue Skywalker lightsaber for now. After seeing teaser, I’d assume that they will spend the most of the film on Ahch-To. But at least at some point of the film, Luke will leave the island.

Millenium Falcon is still in action, but who will pilot her after Han’s death? Rey after she leaves Ahch-To? Poe? Finn? Someone else? Maybe even Leia?

Finn will undergo some treatment for the injuries he got from Kylo, but how long will he be out? Will he be out the whole film, only the beginning or will he come to the rescue at the end of the film?

Poe’s X-Wing appears to blow up, which means that the First Order might have found some resistance base. But more importantly, this makes Poe my top candidate to pilot the Millenium Falcon with Chewie. After all, he’s the best pilot in the resistance.

Kylo will still use a red cross-guard lightsaber.

Now for the most cryptic thing. “I only know one truth, it’s time for the Jedi to end.” What does Luke mean with this? Is he training Rey to become something else than a Jedi, Daisy Ridley has said that she’s not sure if Rey is going to become a Jedi. Or is he telling the truth from a certain point of view, and he’s training Rey to become a different kind of Jedi. Or does he think that the First Order will win and he and Rey will be killed by Kylo, Snoke and the Knights of Ren? Or was the line cut and he continues with something (“It’s time for the Jedi to come back and end this”, for example)?

Overall the trailer was beautiful, stunning, amazing, phenomenal, words cannot describe it. See it for yourself by clicking this link. I don’t know how I’m able to wait eight months for The Last Jedi, I want to see it right now!! I can’t wait anymore.

This was the first of these breakdown things I’ve done here, so let me know in the comments if you want to see more of these!

Also, let’s all just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful this poster is!
